Philomena! You see her type every day and underestimate what they are capable of doing. Most times their threats don’t match their stature, but ladies like Philomena, can go to any extent to get what they want. They are master planners and perfect executioners.
I jolted back to consciousness with a shriek, the instant I felt it pierce my bare skin. A bucket of icy water had been poured on me, and I had no idea who did because the floodlights were all out, and there was no single trace of any other light form. Oh! I had been blindfolded again, and wasn’t even sure how long it’s been I had passed out. The bruise on my left cheek still hurt terribly. I heard footsteps, like someone walking away from me, accompanied by a squeaky sound of a steel bucket; perhaps the one who poured water on me, walking away. I couldn’t really figure out if there were more people in here with me, because it was slightly bigger than the first place I was kept. The last things I saw before I passed out, were walls, floodlights, and a chair with me tied to it, as well as Philomena, “that crazy bitch,” I thought.
The door creaked open again, followed by footsteps heavier than the first, walking in gently. Something dropped leaving a squeaky sound, like sound of an old wooden chair. “Hmm…, a second chair,” I thought. But for what? Maybe I would be interviewed again with stricter measures and torture this time. More footsteps came in again, but this time much more uneven that the first, as if they were struggling to bring in something heavy into the room. I heard a thud to the floor followed almost immediately by the squeaky sound of a chair. Then came friskier noises as if something or someone was being tied to the chair. Someone walked up to me and untied my blindfold. Footsteps hurled away, door opened with a creak and once again, everywhere was quiet. My mind raced back to my ordeal with Philomena.
Remember who said this, “See as handwriting be like where two fowl dey fight? Remember? Yes you do. The interview I went for almost two years ago, where I meet my boss for the first time. Remember that receptionist? Yes, the one that made mockery of me that day before I went in for my interview? That’s is Philomena. She was the naked masked girl with a short-gun that was with me in the room before I passed out.
The floodlights came back on and to my greatest surprise, seated tied to the chair before me in the same room was my boss, Sean. “Seeeeaaaaaannn,” I screamed. “What the fuck is going on?” I yelled in shock. “Hey, Kay,” he said as blood reeled slowly from his nostrils. “Who did this to you Sean? Who the fuck o the freaking earth, did this shit to you, Boss,” I cried. “Hey, hey, hey, buddy, relaaaxx. Okay? It’s going to be alright,” he said trying to force a smile on his badly bruised lips. A pang of pity surged up my chest. I felt helpless and hopeless. I wished I could do something for him at that moment. He was really I a bad shape. Few tears escaped my eyes and ran down my cheeks. The tears gave me a slight sting as it ran over the bruise on my left cheek. Again, lots of questions started to crop up in my mind, though I tried to restrain myself from asking him, seeing the shape that he was in. I waited a moment to see if they will subside, but the kept coming. So I decided to ask him, regardless.
“Boss, do you have any slight idea of who could be responsible for this madness? Do you?” I asked him gently. “Kay, I need to pass across to you a very important information. I tried these few days to open up to you but I kept postponing it, thinking we had all the time in the world,” he muttered. “Boss, what’s more important getting out of this mess?” I asked curiously. “Listen to me, I’m not sure I can get out of this mess. And I honestly wish I don’t, because right now, life is all messed up for me.” He said, sadly. “I don’t understand what you’re talking about boss! I don’t understand!” I cried. “What happened? How did we both get here? Is this Gina’s plan? Your ex-wife? Is this one of her ways of getting back to you for what happened between you and her? Or is there someone else you suspect could be responsible for this?” I asked with anxiety. “I don’t know Kay. I wish I did but I don’t honestly know where this is coming from,” he said, drooling. “What did they do to you, boss? You’re looking terrible. What happened?” I asked. “Oh Kay! You don’t wanna know. You sure don’t wanna know. It’s terrifying. I have never been so terrified in all my entire existence, than I’ve been these last few hours. I’m surprised I’m still alive,” he said, gasping at intervals for breath. I thought of moving my chair close to his, but it was very impossible with the way I’ve been tied to it. “Don’t bother Kay. Don’t bother. I need to tell you certain things, in case I eventually don’t make it out of this alive. I can’t even place a hand on who could be behind this, because I have offended a lot of people in the past,” he said as he managed to raise his head up a bit and looked towards me. My eyes widened with surprise at what he had said. “Yes Kay,” he said as he noticed the surprise look on my face. “I have. Even you. I have offended you, but then after a while…,” the door creaks open, cutting short his confession.
A masked man, dressed in all black suit and white hand gloves, pushes in a trolley with two cups, a flask and few slices of bread on a plate. The aroma from the cup of tea seemed to me at that moment like a pot of jollof-rice. He stops in front of me, picks up a fork and feeds me the four pieces of sliced bread, which was apparently a normal slice of bread but they divided it into four. Next, he lifted the cup of lukewarm tea and place on my lips. I gulped it down like a hungry wolf. I looked up at him, expecting more. Then he smiled as he pushed his trolley away towards the door. “Heeeyyyyyy…! Heeeyyyyyy…!” I yelled at him. He stopped and turned, facing me. “You didn’t bring anything for him? I asked, using my head to motion toward the direction of my boss. He smiled again, said nothing, made no gestures and then, disappeared through the door. “Get your sorry ass back here. Did you hear me? Get your black sorry ass back in here,” I yelled in anger. “Calm down Kay! Calm down. None of these was your fault, okay? I am totally responsible for the whole mess,” he said. Somehow, his smile has shown up again, but lightly.
“Kay, ’ he called. “Yes Boss,” I answered. “I am sorry in any way I have offended you. I know I have in many ways, even though you never would tell me,” he said. “What are you talking about Boss,” I asked curiously. “I took advantage of you Kay, and I still regret it up till date. The more I have come to know you, I regret what happened that day, every day,” he said. “It’s alright Boss. That’s been like ages now. You should let go. Moreover, I’m not complaining about it,” I said. “I have not always been as good as you come to know me to be. I have duped people, framed and set people up with false allegations and accusations. I have met with high and mighty men and set them up for some few dollars or more. They are often forced to pay, because nobody wants to be stigmatized with some kind of activities. I used my charm to make myself some money which I used to start up my own business. But a lot of toes I did step on in the process. So, right now it could be any of them that is responsible this mess, which I shouldn’t have gotten you into in the first place. I can’t tell you all I’ve done, but I have done so much to deserve this kind of treatment from whoever it is. Let’s just say, it’s payback time,” he said.
I was speechless. I could only stare at him. “Kay, I’m a man of many sorrow thought I try to hide behind my smile. I have damaged myself beyond repair. To be very honest with you, I don’t have a wife, not to talk of an ex-wife. I only used it as a decoy to keep myself out of impending trouble.” he said shamefully. “You don’t have a whaaaaaat? What the fuck is wrong with you, Boss? What did the do with your brain?” I yelled. “Listen to me,” he yelled back at me, looking sternly at me. “Listen to meeee Kay. I don’t have all the time,” he continued. “Remember the hooded guy that came after you, the night you ran out on me from the office?” he asked. I said nothing but nodded in affirmation to what he asked. “I sent them after you,” he said. “You fucking whaaaaat? Are you trying to play games with my mind boss? Because if you are, you can’t get my head fucked up,” I said bowing my head, trying to hide the tear brewing in them. My heart felt like a little knife had cut through it, and it hurts really badly. “I know this is hard for you, but I still need you to listen to me. I asked them to get you back to the office, because I thought you were gonna report me or do something out of place. I never asked them to frisk you,” he said. “Frisk me? Frisk me? Those guys would have raped me that night. It was like from frying pan into fire.” I cried. “Forgive me Kay, I’m really sorry, but you have to listen to me. I left a letter in-between your laptop. It contains details of everything I want you to know. I have in saved in your laptop as well and I put a password on your laptop so no one can gain access to it easily. You will find the password…” he was interrupted again as the door creaked open.
Philomena entered, still masked, but no longer naked. She wore a black silky shimmery body fitted gown, with her red heeled shoes and red lipstick to match. “Well, I can see you two are having fun, aren’t you? Well, I know..., I know… boys affair right. You guys don’t care about tits, do you? Well, I came to see how you guys are faring, and if you do need anything just let me know. Oh, I forgot, we don’t have telecom here. Too baaadddd. Anyway, I’m off. My tits and regional headquarters are available, in case you need any. You guys are just too cute. Just a baby from each of you and my world is made. Ciaaaaooooo!” she said as she walked out of the room, leaving us to behold her ‘unpanted’ buttocks beneath her gown.
“Kay, if you survive this, promise me one thing,” he barely had finished when I said, “What sort of nonsense are you talking about Boss? You’ll be fine,” I said. “Kay I do not wish to be fine. I am beter off dead. I was… I… was,” he sighed a deep sigh and kept quiet. “You were what Boss,” I asked inquisitively. “I was raped Kay,” he stuttered. “I was raped several times,” he said and then he started to cry. “Raped? How? By who?” I asked, looking confused as I tried to comprehend the meaning of what he said. “Last morning, when I left you a note, I had an appointment to catch up with before I went for church service. So, I called the younger security man on his phone, who doubles up also as my cleaner, but he didn’t pick up the calls. I felt he was somewhat tired and needed some rest, so I decided to make your coffee myself, which I served on your table together with the cookies and the note I wrote. I had barely stepped out of my house when four hefty men like bouncers, pounced on me and gave me the beating of my life. They beat me so hard I passed out. That was all I could remember when I woke up,” he said.
“Wait… wait… wait… boss. Are you saying you don’t know anything about my coffee being drugged,” I asked him, still shocked and dumbfounded. “Drugged? What do you mean drugged?” he asked, sighing deeply. “I know I’ve done terrible things in the past Kay, but I would never drug your drink for any reason. You seem not to have understood where I am going to with all I’ve been trying to tell you. Do you? Kay, you changed a lot of things for me. My encounter with you opened my eyes to a more humane part of me that I have denied myself to be for years. When I met…” I cut him short again and asked, “Boss… boss… boss… boss… waaaiiiiiit! If you didn’t drug my coffee or cookies, then who did? I asked furiously, trying to figure out what had happened. He kept quiet and after a while spoke up. Believe me Kay, I don’t have a hand with drugging the coffee. Whoever it was that sent those thugs to beat me up or the thugs themselves must be responsible for the drugged coffee. I made the coffee myself and I know I used nothing more than required,” he said.
My head raged with anger and pain. I stared into the light filled room as if nothing was there. “So, Philomena cannot keep to a single plan,” I muttered to myself.

Stripped from head to toe; bound hands and feet, mouth-tied, blindfolded and shrouded by uncertainty, I sat hopelessly in the dark recess of oblivion. My only wish was at least to confront my foes eyeball to eyeball. If this was going to be my last phase on earth, then I want to face ii bravely. I want to look death I the eyes and wrestle its body.
I took a deep breath and heaved a very deep sigh. I couldn’t exactly place a hand on what the sigh was for. Maybe it was out of exhaustion. Maybe out of hopelessness. Or maybe just out of fear. Fear, of what life held for me at that very moment. The room I had been kept in was very quiet. You could hear nothing but the sounds of your own breath and movements. From my own analysis, I could conclude that it was a sound proofed room, probably built for special private purposes. If you’ve ever been to a studio, you’ll understand what I mean. I felt like I was in a well-padded room, soundproofed from external noise.
Time, there in the dark, was nothing but an illusion. I’d lost track of it. I couldn’t tell if it was morning, noon or night. Everything felt like nothing. Nothing at that point, meant anything to me as much as the desire to live again with the slightest air of freedom. I couldn’t tell for how long it was that I had passed out after my drugged breakfast of coffee and cookies, which landed me in this mess. “Or was I dead?” I thought. Was this what it actually felt like to be dead? To exist in timelessness?
I had tried so hard to keep myself from believing that my boss, Sean, knows anything about or had a hand in my present predicament, but the harder I tried, the stronger the thought fought its way through. Tears reeled down my cheek as the memories replayed in my head; his advances towards me, his niceness and how jovial he always is. Then I recalled my shock when I realized my phone had been accessed and then formatted. I recalled also what he had told me about his encounter with the policemen, and then finally I recalled his note that accompanied my deathly breakfast. “Could this be a part of a big plan that is yet to be unveiled? A deadly snare? A setup?” I thought. “But why would Sean set me up? It’s very obvious he is so into me. Or was it all a pretentious part that he played out well to get me trapped? But for what reason exactly? I have nothing. I mean nothing! Not even a hundredth of what he has and is. So why all these?” I was still trying to process the million thoughts in my head, when I felt an inflow of air accompanied with a very strong smelling perfume. Someone had just walked in.
The person walked up close to me and the next I felt was a resounding slap on the left side of my cheek. I groaned. The slap was followed by a jab to my stomach and then my back. I could do nothing but groan and wriggle in pains. Another slap landed at the back of my head sending my whole body flat to the floor. I waited in fear for more of the torture but it didn’t come again. I concluded the person must have left the room. I tried to assume back a sitting position, but my whole body hurt so badly. After several trials that made me feel nothing but more pains, I resolved to quietly lie down and wait for whatever next was coming. I had a feeling my backbone might have been slightly broken as a result of the jabs and the left side of my cheek felt as if it has been peeled off by the slap. After a while, I felt myself being carried by two people, one held my hands and the other my feet. I was being moved out of the room. I had slept off after moments after I had been beaten, which was why I didn’t notice when they came in. The thoughts of my parents and siblings flashed through my head. “All the promises I made them; all the dreams I have ever had, of what use are they now? I would never see them again and they would never know what happened to me,” I thought.
My hands and feet were untied and just as I was feeling relieved of it, I was made to sit down on a chair and had my whole body tied to it. The blind fold as well as the mouth-tie were remove. I felt the two people walk away. Suddenly, my eyes were hit by series of floodlights, I squinted until my eyes were able to adjust to the lights properly. “Who the fuuck are you people?” I screamed. “Show your ugly coward infested faces. Come ooooooooonnnn! Let me see your shit plastered face,” I yelled. Then from behind I heard someone pull a trigger. My whole body stiffened. “I am not afraid to die, fuckers. Let me see your face before I die, you coward. Leeettt meeee see your fucking face!” I yelled angrily. Then I felt a -coldness on my head. The gun was there on the right side of my head, waiting cold and still. “One more word Jay, and I will blow out your pathetic brains off your pretty face.” It was a woman’s voice.
She left the back and walked right into my face. She was stark naked, just like I was. Her breasts firm and well-shaped. Her hips were beautifully curvy and her belly was flat. She wore a red high heeled shoe and walked elegantly and comfortably in it. Her face was concealed behind a white party mask. “Hi Kelechi, do you like my tits?” she said as she squatted right in front of me. “I’m not sure we’ve met, not even in our dreams. But I sure do know a lot about you,” she said and then giggled lightly. “Who are you and what do you want from me?” I asked tiredly. “One more word from your luscious lips Kay, and that will be the end of your sorry-life,” she said waving her shot-gun before me. “Here, only one person makes the rules and it is the person with the gun. Do you understand?” she threatened. I kept quiet. She stood up, turned her back to me, walked some inches away, and swerved immediately to face me again. “Would you love some head, Kay? Urhhhhh! I feel like…. Hmmmm… so horny right now. Ohhh! I see. You don’t like me one bit, right? What’s the matter boy? Hmm? What don’t you like really? My hips? My breasts? My butts? What? Are they not firm enough?” she said as she moved closer to me and squatted again. “What don’t you like about me, you bastard? Huh?” she retorted with anger. “I don’t understand what you’re trying to do but…” she cut short my talking back with a dirty slap, again on my left cheek. I felt blood rolling out of my nose. “Now listen to me you retarded bastard. I do the talking here and you only have a chance to speak, if I ask you to. Understood?” I kept quiet. She yelled at me again, “UN-DERR-STOOOD?” “Yes,” I replied drowsily. “That’s my boy. Now Kelechi, oh no! Kay is sexier,” she said and laughed boisterously. “Kayyyy? Will you cum inside of me if I wanted you to? You and I could make some pretty babies together. Or what do you think sweerieeee?” She said touching my thighs, and then my stomach. I felt very irritated. ”Goooshhhh! How can someone be so disgusting,” I thought. “And the way she calls my name… Kayyyyyy! Could there be a better replacement for disgusting?” Every moment looked so slimy and annoying, just watching her form sexy and wicked at the same time.
She stood up again walked few inches away, turns slowly and pointed the gun at me. “Kay? I can with one shot, disintegrate your fucking pretty face off your damn neck you know,” she said sternly looking straight at me. “I don’t know what it is I had done to anyone to deserve this kind of torture, but I ask your forgiveness. I just want to go and live my life quietly. Whatever it is I ask your forgiveness and pledge it will never happen again,” I stuttered. “Oh sure… it will never happen again. I’ll make sure it never happens again, you poor thing” she said softly and then immediately concluded with a yell “Didn’t I warn you not to say a word.” Then she switched back to talking softly, And oh, Kay. I know about what happened two streets away from your house two nights ago. Also, I have every single data from your cellphone, contacts, chats and every single picture you ever had in it,” she said lightly with a faint smile. My whole melted with fear. I tried to control the subtle shiver creeping up my legs.
I didn’t know what exactly to think. I was still overwhelmed with fear when she said, “Hey Kay, would you love some twerking? Ohhh noooo! Poor thing. I almost forgot. You don’t do women right?” she mocked. My heart sank. I was gravely terrified. This is so much information about me for one person to have, and trying to think about how she came about them beat my imagination. “You prefer your like, right? Right?” she yelled angrily, pointing her gun at me. “Yes...Yessss, I prefer my likes,” I screamed. “Good,” she said. “Good you know because you took something that belonged to me – something very important; very special. I waited patiently for this time, to take it back from you, or maybe not. Maybe just to teach you never to tamper with what you can’t afford, next time,” she said, staring right into my eyes. “I know you’re wondering who I am, how I got the whole information about you but most importantly, what you took from me. Well, I will reveal to you who I am right now, then we both can figure out how the rest had happened. And that would end this session with you. I really did have a good time Kay. You’re quite an interesting personality,” she said.
She bent down to face me and then pulled of the white party mask that had concealed her face all the while. I passed out.

After my boss had left my room for his, I tried to power on my phone but it would come on. I suspected the battery power had been completely drained. Moreover, I had left my data service on, the last time I was with it. I stood up, went and switched back the lights on and started pacing around the room. I opened up the ajar wardrobe and found nothing but naked hangers. “There ought to be a charger somewhere in this big bedroom,” I whispered. I searched inside the wardrobe and still found nothing. “Maybe I should find out from boss if he has one,” I thought. Although he uses an iphone, I still had this nudge that there must be an android phone charger, somewhere in this big house. I paused for few indecisive seconds, thinking if asking boss was a good idea or I should just forget the whole phone stuff till morning. Then I decided I should give it a try. I opened the door and walked quietly towards my boss’s bedroom. The door was slightly open, so I pushed it in slowly and went inside. A red dim light was on. I could barely see anything clearly inside it. I scanned the tables and every feasible corner, but there was no trace of any charger. Carefully and quietly again, I walked out of my boss’s room and walk into the living room, switched on the light and scanned around again. This time, I found a charger, took it and headed back to my bedroom. I plugged the charger and got my phone connected immediately. It read 0% and then started charging. I slipped back in bed, hoping to be awake for few more minutes, so the phone could charge up and I can still power it on.
The hands ran through my naked laps, briskly massaging each of them. Then one of them started stroking my ‘koboko’ gently but smoothly. I wanted more. I wanted it all. My body jerked intermittently in rhythm to the stroking of my ‘koboko,’ up and then down. I wriggled slowly in-between surrender and retreat with breathy moans. I tried to pull away but then again, would surrender at will. The hand then started tracing right from my groins, through my navel, and then chest. And lastly on my neck, followed with a kiss. I wriggled and moaned with pleasure. Then a body slowly lay on my body. Mouth to mouth, chest to chest, fingers to fingers, bulge to bulge and ski to skin. I felt a shiver, a rush of mild but pleasurable fever, as the mouth kissed my mouth passionately. Warm and sweet it was, like a mixture of mint and vanilla, while fingers began to interlock and bulges grew more intense. The body laid calm on mine, no caress, nothing. My temperature ran wild. I just knew I couldn’t fight back this one, then I calmly surrendered to it. Then one of the hands unlocked from mine, went right back down and started stroking my ‘koboko’ again with the body still lying on me. I was going to cum, when I suddenly woke up. I had been dreaming. I looked around the dark bedroom as if I was going to arrest the culprit, but there was no one in there. The only light I could see was from my phone which had been fully charged and was displaying its fully charged light icon. I came down from the bed, unplugged my phone, powered it on and crawled back into bed. It was 4:30am.
I immediately knew something was wrong when my phone did not request my usual password before I could access it. I wondered what had happened as I carefully swiped across the windows, checking to see if there were any possible changes. My curiosity intensified when I discovered that all the applications I had downloaded, which were not customized applications for my phone, were all gone. Quickly I went straight to my contact list, only to discover that all my contacts have been wiped out of my phone - every single one. I reached for my phone’s picture gallery and to my horror, no single file was left in my phone. Only then did it dawn on me that my phone had be accessed and then formatted. I was practically holding my phone in the same state it was when I first bought it. “But how come? What could have happened that would have triggered a reformatting of my phone? It obviously was not a mistake. Someone had intentionally formatted my phone. But why?” I thought worriedly. Then my mind suddenly raced back to what my boss had told me earlier that day, with regards to his meeting with the policemen. He said that they had found a pass-worded phone on the scene of the crime last night, and they were doing everything they could to crack it open, because they believed that the contents of the phone would be a major lead for them to tracking down the suspect. Whatever information they were be able to gather from the phone would definitely serve as a major break for them in solving the case.
My heart pounded harder as I processed every single thought that my mind kept generating. I carefully weighed the possibility of being tracked down and arrested for murder. The thought of it made my heart sink into my stomach. Fear crept into my spine, seemingly paralyzing my whole body. My legs began to shake. “Could it be someone else’s phone that they had picked up?” I thought, trying to console myself. “Why had my boss not seen the phone in the bag when he brought my laptop and wallet, because according to him, he had asked the driver to pack everything that belonged to me into his bag? That means he must have shown him my desk and the contents from my desk he wanted him to include in his bag. Or could it be that he had transferred my laptop and wallet to another bag when he got home for ease of carriage, but then didn’t see the phone? On the other hand, if he could see my wallet in the same bag, then why not my phone?” I muttered to myself.
“Then again, why did my boss tell the police I was his brother? Why did he have to go to such length to lie to them that we spent the whole of the day at the office working, if he hadn’t sensed any impending or imminent signs of danger? It seemed like a perfect excuse for someone who doesn’t want himself indulged in any way with police and their trouble, especially for some implicative cases like murder,” I thought. Could it be my boss already suspected I may be involved or implicated in a way, given the space of time the whole incident happened. He was one smart guy I know. Maybe he had figured out that if I was eventually tracked down as a prime suspect, it might lead to exposing what led me to the scene of the crime that night. Which would not be nice for people to hear with regards to the caliber of man that he is seen as in the society. So in other to avert any possible links, he might as well have made the policemen offers to die down their take on the matter. Is it even possible to bribe the police off a case as serious as murder? What if my boss was just trying to protect me in all these? What if this was simply a genuine foreplay of love and care?” I thought. I felt a sharp pain on the left side of my head. I put my hand on it, closed my eyes and everything suddenly started spinning. I staggered and fell on the bed still holding my head as it swirled with crazier frantic thoughts. I laid back only to wake up around 6:30am.
Waking up to the smell of freshly made coffee was the most relieving thing that happened to my morning that day. On the small side table beside the bed, was a cup of coffee and some cookies in a sizable steel tray. Beside the cookie plate was a note. I picked it up and opened it. It read:
‘Make yourself comfortable Kay. I had a very important impromptu meeting to catch up with, after which I will go for church service. I wanted you to have some more rest, and that is the reason I didn’t bother waking you up this morning. If you need anything, kindly contact any of the security guards, although I think whatever it is you’d need within the short space of time I would be away, you can find in the house. See you soon.’
I smiled as I dropped the note on the bed and invaded the plate of cookies as if I had not eaten for days. I sipped the coffee. It tasted differently sweeter and better than what I was used to. I gulped more of it. “Hmmm! Nice,” I thought. Sean definitely knows how to take care of, or should I say spoil someone. I was about to pick the last cookie from the saucer, when I noticed it had doubled. I tried to pick it still but couldn’t. A strange dizziness seemed to weigh my eyes down. My sight grew blurry. Everything started replicating itself in twos and threes and fours. I stood up, hoping I could manage and get to the bathroom, but the coffee cup slipped off my hand. The last thing I remember, was a thud and a smash to the floor. Then I woke up to a gross darkness.

After we had eaten and rested, watching the epic blockbuster comedy ‘The Mask,’ which starred the hilarious l actor Jim Carrey, boss showed me to my bedroom. I was drained and worried, due to the series of thoughts that kept erupting in my mind. “If the phone the police had found was actually mine, then the depth of shit I have gotten myself into, is deeper than I initially feared. The new information my boss had relayed to me, is causing some serious strains within me. The chaos is eating me up. What about my all my chats, whatsapp, facebook messenger and the other likes? What would they think if they saw the contents? Gooosshh! I’m finished. I really should be dead right now,” I thought as I slipped my tired body into the family-sized bed. The beds softness was much more comforting than my own thoughts, and how I so wished the feelings it gave my body can be extended to my heart right about this moment. I’m sure it would grant my troubled heart some peace.
Though I was very tired, sleep seemed very far from my eyes. I managed to get up, reach the switch, turned out the lights and slipped back lousily into my bed. “I should have come with my laptop. Music would have been the best therapy for me tonight,” I thought. I had barely closed my eyes trying to find sleep wherever it had hidden itself, when the lights came back on. It was my boss.
“Kay, are you alright?” he asked, already in his boxers and a plain white t-shirt. “Yes, I am,” I replied. “Sean,” he stressed. “Call me Sean,” he stressed again as he walked towards my bed. Even in ordinary boxers, he still looked exquisitely cute. And his bulge? It was even bigger than I has thought. I wondered how, what he harbored underneath those boxers would looked like for a moment, and then shook it off my head immediately, as he came and sat down on the bed. “You looked very worried Kay. Is there anything particularly bothering you? If there is, we can talk about it. See me as your friend now, and forget the bossing for now at least. When we get back to workplace on Monday we continue, he said, his voice deep and rich with concern and care. I sat up, looked at him for a while and then looked away gently. “Why are you being extra nice to me, boss? I know naturally you are nice to a fault, but this, the whole thing makes me slightly uneasy. I mean no harm by asking, but I really would love to know, because I feel I’ve been here before. It feels like a ‘dejavu’ and I would never allow the last experience I had to repeat itself. I swear on my life,” I said, softly. Then tuning to him, I continued. “What exactly boss? I am not the only worker in your company, neither am I the best or most intelligent. But it seems you have taken a special interest in me and won’t stop at anything to show it. So tell me exactly Boss, what is it about me that warrants these extra interests? I need to know.” “My name, Kay, is Sean,” he reinstated, after listening to me patiently. “I want…,” his phone vibrated distracting and cutting him short from finishing his sentence. He looked at it, touched a button and seemed to have read something from it. Then he shook his head, passed the phone over to me and said, “Read.” I took the phone from him and glanced through the message that appeared before me:
“May God punish you and reserve the deepest and hottest part of hell for you. You this demon. You thought you could ruin my life. God will judge you. You hear! God will judge you!”
i was more awake now after reading the text message, stunned by the weight of what I had read , or should I say that what actually stunned me, was to whom it was addressed – my boss. He’s just too perfect and too nice for someone to have sent that. Yeah, I know everyone has their little demons, but it seemed to me my boss had been able to trade his demons fortunately, wherever, for his charms and charisma. “Who sent that,” I asked disgustedly. “My wife. Sorry, my ex-wife I meant to say,” he said, retaining a faint smile on his lips. “Ex-Wife?” I exclaimed. “Yes,” he nodded, “Ex-wife,” he said as he collected the phone from me, tapped on few buttons and gave them back to me. It was a picture of a beautiful woman, whom I already guessed must be his ex-wife. “Who,” I asked. “My wife, sorry again. I meant my ex-wife. I shave to get used quickly to adding the ex,” he said and chuckled. “Well, this may sound fun and funny to you, but I can’t tell you how really awkward I feel right now about it. Last year, I remember you called her on her birthday, with your phone on its external speaker, as all the staff sung her a birthday song. You said she was in Italy then,” I said. “Yes, you have a very sound memory. She’s still there in Italy. Though we are officially divorced, she keeps sending these messages, thinking she can provoke me with them. She thinks I wanted to ruin her life. She thinks all sorts of things about me now. The message you read, is nothing compare to some others she had sent. She thinks all sorts of ill-mannered things about me, and when she can’t contain the thoughts, she shares them with me via text messages,” he said as he heaved a sigh.
“Things like what? What happened? Why did she leave? Was it you who filed for a divorce, or she did?” I pressed with more questions. “No! I would never do such a thing, but I still believe it was for the best of our interests that we did. I am glad we both came to that point where we had to set ourselves from the bondage we greedily self-inflicted on ourselves,” he said. “I don’t understand Sean, errmm, I mean Boss. Please explain,” I finished stuttering, having realized that I had eventually fallen into the trap of calling my boss by his name. He laughed, patted the back of my hand and said, “You sleep now Kay. We have lots of time to talk tomorrow.” “I don’t feel sleepy. We van talk now,” I said. “Goodnight Kay. We’ll talk morrow, okay?” he said as he stood to leave. I held his hand and said, “Stay Sean. I want to hear your story. Tell it to me like it is. I won’t interrupt you; I won’t judge you. I just want to listen to you pour out your heart. Remember, a problem shared is half solved.” He sat back down on the bed, looking like a lost child, longing for its mother. I could sense the weight of his pain from his silence. His eyes blinked restlessly and after a while he was gazing blankly at the pillow on my bed. “Sean, I called out his name again, quietly. “I want you to tell me your story. I’m all ears,” I said.
“Now listen,” he started. “For years, I have learned to fight myself in order to be someone else. I have battled ceaselessly this thing they called a demon, which surfaced each day to eat every atom of peace within me without a second thought. I have sojourned, seeking for the slightest remedy to calm my tormented soul,” he said. I laid back down, so I can get a proper view of his face as he spoke. “This demon, what is it like when it overwhelms you? How do you know it has surfaced? What does it make you in particular?” I asked him gently. “You sure don’t want to know Kay. You sure don’t. My growing up as a teenager was absolute war for me. There were no kinds of places I wasn’t taken for prayers, my parents being the staunch religious type, to make sure this demon was suppressed,” he said, as he bowed his head like a dying last soldier, surrounded by a thousand foes. Tears flowed down his cheek, seeding a mild chill through me at the sight of him crying. I watched him without the slightest idea of what to do. I quietly reached folded my hands and observed him quietly.
Then he continued, “Kay, my wife left me because of you.” Suddenly it seemed like I had been stuck by lightening. I was speechless, dumbfounded. I could only gaze at him in shock as his statement kept echoing in my head. “What the hell did he even mean by that,” I thought.
“My wife left me when she found out, one year after our marriage. Then wrote me few weeks after our divorce, that she had aborted our three weeks old baby, soon afterwards she had found out. She was going to tell me about our baby on the same day she caught me red handed,” he said, and then sighed heavily. “That fateful day she was scheduled to travel. All preparations had been duly processed. I dropped her off at the airport and kissed her goodbye. Then drove back to the office. That same day in the evening, I organized a little get together for my staff and few friends. It was on a Friday. I was so lost in the party mood, a bit tipsy as well, I never had the slightest idea my phone had been ringing. After my friends and staff had gone, I asked one of my staff to wait around…” “To wait around and help you clean up the messed up room, with the promise that you’d drop him off when he was done,” I said, cutting him short and finishing the statement aptly for him. I remembered that night like yesterday. That was my first encounter with my boss. He kept staring at me while I cleaned up the whole messy room diligently. He was very high on alcohol that night. To drunk for whatever happened afterwards to be true.

He returned few minutes later only to be holding in his hand that looked like mine. “Do you have an idea whom the owner is? I think someone must have left it on their desk and my driver must have mistakenly packed it alongside your laptop and wallet when I asked him to put your things inside my bag yesterday,” he said, tossing the phone towards me. “I think you should sleep Kay. We’ll continue our talk in the morning. Goodnight,” he said as he turned out the lights and closed the door behind him.
The phone was mine.
